TBSA Timeline
- In 1979, Venerable Mahasi Sayadaw conducted the Dhamma Duta Mission to the USA. The entourage consisted of four monks and a Kappiya.
- At the end of the trip, Sayadaw fulfilled the request (by the devotees in the USA) to leave behind Sayadaw U Silananda and Sayadaw U Kelasa (for the dispensation of Sasana).
- On October 13, 1979, Theravada Buddhist Society of America (TBSA) was formed to establish a monastery (in the SF Bay Area).
- In June 1980, a house was rented in Staple Ave, San Francisco for use as a (temporary) monastery.
- On July 27, 1980, the monastery was opened to the devotees; it was named “Dhammananda Vihara”.
- On June 18, 1981, “Dhammananda Vihara” moved to a newly acquired building at 68 Woodrow St. Daly City.
- In November 1996, “Dhammanada Vihara” moved to (the present premises at) 17450 Cabrillo Highway So. Half Moon Bay
၁။ ၁၉၇၉-ခုနှစ် ဧပြီလတွင် မဟာစည်ဆရာတော်ကြီးသည် နောက်ပါ သံဃာလေးပါး၊ ကပ္ပိယ တစ်ယောက်နှင့် အမေရိကားသို့ သာသနာပြု ကြွလာခဲ့၏။
၂။ သာသနာပြုခရီးစဉ် ပြီးဆုံး၍ မြန်မာပြည်အပြန်တွင် ဆက်လက်၍ သာသနာပြုရန် ဆရာတော် ဦးသီလာနန္ဒနှင့် ဆရာတော် ဦးကေလာသတို့ကို ချန်ထားခဲ့၏။
၃။ ၁၉၇၉-ခုနှစ်၊ အောက်တိုဘာ ၁၃-ရက်နေ့တွင် ကျောင်းတည်ထောင်ရန် အသင်းကို ဖွဲ့စည်းခဲ့၏။ ထိုအသင်းကို Theravada Buddhist Society of America ဟု အမည်ပေးခဲ့၏။
၄။ ၁၉၈၀-ခုနှစ်၊ ဇွန်လတွင် ကျောင်းဖွင့်လှစ်နိုင်ရန် San Francisco, Staple Ave ၌ အိမ်တစ်လုံး ငှားခဲ့၏။
၅။ ၁၉၈၀-ခုနှစ်၊ ဇူလိုင်လ ၂၇-ရက်နေ့တွင် ထိုကျောင်းကို “ဓမ္မာနန္ဒဝိဟာရ”ဟု အမည်ပေးကာ ဖွင့်လှစ်ခဲ့၏။
၆။ ၁၉၈၁-ခုနှစ်၊ ဇွန်လ ၁၈-ရက်နေ့တွင် 68 Woodorws St, Daly City ၌ ကျောင်းသစ် ဝယ်ကာ ဖွင့်လှစ်ခဲ့ပါသည်။
၇။ ၁၉၉၆-ခုနှစ်၊ နိုဝင်ဘာလတွင် ကျောင်းတော်ကို 17450 Cabrillo Hwy So. Half Moon Bay သို့ ပြောင်းရွှေ့ခဲ့ပါသည်။
